Manly is the terminus of the ferry service that crosses Port Jackson (Sydney Harbour) so the CBD is only 14 kilometres away by crossing the Spit Bridge and taking the road north to Mosman. Sydney Airport is around 30 kilometres south of Manly.

Manly's ocean beach has lifeguards throughout summer and short periods through winter. The beach itself provides a mix of sand and rocks with plentiful open swells in most wind directions providing good opportunities for surfers.
The Corso, runs along the beach and is filled with dozens of cafes bars and restaurants. Manly wharf is home to the SeaLink ferry service that provides transport across Port Jackson (Sydney Harbour) to Circular Quay in Sydney's central business district. North Head Sanctuary provides expansive lookouts over much of the harbour and ocean beaches. The headland itself has walking tracks passing through it and around it, including one that passes old defence installations such as gun emplacements and tunnels, some dating back to colonial times.
Most dives are done off boats, because the water around Manly is very deep and currents are strong. There are some great scuba diving charter companies operating out of Sydney who regularly do trips to Manly including Sydney Dive Charters, The Dive Tribe and Tasmanian Devil Scuba.
Stingrays can be found swimming on the sand at North Head Sanctuary.
The Cabbage Tree Bay Aquatic Reserve is one of the most popular ocean beaches in Sydney with swimming and surfing. The reserve is in Manly Council area, in Sydney's Northern Beaches region. It is located about 1 kilometre south of Manly Beach on the eastern side of the peninsula.
