If you're looking for a beach that has it all, look no further than Bungan Beach. It is a fantastic place to visit any time of year and a quick trip from the city centre.
Bungan is a stunning secluded beach, with a great mix of sand and rocks, beautiful clean water and usually a good swell for surfing.
The best thing to do at the beach is go surfing or enjoy the unique stretch of coastline. It's also a fantastic place to go fishing. There If you don't want to surf there are many other things at Bungan Beach such as snorkelling, swimming and nature walks.
Bungan Beach is around 40km from the Sydney CBD. It should take you around 50 minutes to an hour to drive to the CBD. The trip can take much longer during peak hours. A public bus service to the city runs regularly. This can take around 1 hour and 30 minutes to reach the CBD.
It is about 45-50km to Sydney's domestic and international airports. A ride in a taxi or Uber should take around 45 minutes.
The best way to get to Bungan Beach is by car, but there is limited parking near the beach.
There are not many shops to visit in Bungan Beach. The main shopping area is located either north at nearby Newport or south at Mona Vale along Barrenjoey Raod. Here you will find a number of shops, restaurants and cafes.
Bungan Beach is a quiet suburb located in Sydney's Northern Beaches. The main attraction in the local area is the beach itself, but there are other things to see and do here. For example, you can visit Palm Beach which is about 20 minutes away by car and has a stunning view of the coast and plenty of cafes and shops and facilities. You can also take a walk to the lighthouse and see the views of the coast from this spot.
It is a fantastic place to learn to surf and there are surf schools in the area. The best time of year for learning to surf is in spring and summer when the waves tend to be smaller and more manageable. There are many surf schools and you should expect to pay around $100-120 for a one hour lesson, which includes all equipment and transport.
Bungan Beach does not get too busy at night, although it can be busy during summer. The suburb is very close to the cosmopolitan nightlife in
Newport,
Mona Vale and further up the peninsular,
Palm Beach.
There are no golf courses in Bungan Beach itself, but there are many nearby that you can play at in neighbouring suburbs Avalon, Mona Vale and Palm Beach.
There are plenty of cafe's in Newport and Mona Vale and some great restaurants in Palm Beach and Avalon. You can find quaint little cafes in Bungan Beach that are perfect places to grab brunch after a surf.
