Clareville beach extends from Taylor's Point in the south to north along the Pittwater shoreline. It is a family-friendly sheltered beach just west of Avalon.
The beach itself lies within the Clareville Reserve which runs along Pittwater.
Pittwater is an inlet of Broken Bay, the other body of water that makes up the Northern Beaches peninsula. The entrance to the reserve is just off Pittwater Road, Avalon. If it's a quiet day parking is usually fine.
The sand is a golden colour, not too coarse and not too soft. It is a mix of sand from Broken Bay and sand wept down from Hawkesbury. The water is also clean and clear.
Clareville Beach is around 50 km from the Sydney CBD or just over an hour of driving.
Clareville Beach is part of the Council-owned Clareville Reserve which has picnic tables, barbecues, public toilets and showers.
The closest shops are in Avalon village around 5 minutes away.
The locals will hang out in the carpark in front of the water, in a couple of picnic tables in a sunny spot near a BBQ. A good place to catch some rays before you swim!
The main activity at the beach itself is swimming and you'll often see stand up paddle boarders and kayakers out in Pittwater.
There is no surf at Clareville Beach itself as you have to cross to the other side of the peninsula for an exposed surf beach. People surf at other beaches around the area such as
Curl Curl
and
Mona Vale Beach.
Clareville is quite a popular spot with locals, especially during summer when you'll see people swim off the sand banks onto their boats moored in Pittwater. As it is a family-friendly beach you will also see children playing in the shallows.
During the weekends, Avalon becomes busy with locals and tourists heading to cafes, shops and restaurants.
There is council Pay and display parking in front of the beach.
On weekends you might have to park further away if parking is taken but during the week it's easy to choose a spot nearby.
The Clareville Reserve stretches along Pittwater.
It's a popular spot with walkers and runners as it is well maintained and good for picnics with great views of the water.
Bike riders practice their skills on the bike track as well as beginners out on family rides. A popular spot for kayakers and stand up paddleboarders as the water is usually calm.
